This year, we underwent our 5th phase of planting, surpassing 2500 sqm of reclaimed land. We are making progress on our planned 10,000 sqm expansion and are continuing to restore land around the city’s most polluted river in partnership with our crowdfunding partner, SUGi Project.

In May 2019, we planted 200 sqm of dense, native, fast-growing forest along the banks of the Beirut River, our flagship Miyawaki Forest aimed at reviving the native ecosystem along the riverbank.

At one time, the banks of the Beirut River served as a gathering place for human and other life alike. In 1968, the river was encased in concrete, detaching it from the surrounding communities and suspending the ecosystem services it once provided.

theOtherDada has reclaimed an informal urban landfill site, rewilding the urban landscape and rekindling local communities’ connections to nature.

The forest will attract native biodiversity and perform some of the ecosystem services that the natural riverbanks once provided.

So far over 7680 trees and shrubs have been planted, including 23 different native species.
